Important notice for all students
Dear all WIN Community,
We are writing to you concerning the outbreak of novel Coronavirus (n-CoV) and the measures Wentworth Institute (WIN) is taking to support its community. The Australian Government has suspended all travel from mainland China to Australia in response to the Coronavirus outbreak.
This measure applies to everyone except Australian citizens, permanent residents and their families, until further notice.
This news means that a number of our students may not be able to join us for the start of semester as hoped. Naturally, many members of our community will find this news upsetting and will be looking to Wentworth Institute (WIN) for support. We understand this news may have disrupted your plans, but, we are committed to extend our support in a meaningful way. We will be communicating via email to all new and continuing students from China, in addition, we will be communicating via email to all our international students travelling to Australia offering reassurance that we will do all we can to help them continue their studies and that we look forward to welcoming them as soon as they are able to travel. We will shortly be communicating further with both continuing and commencing students from China and abroad to better understand their individual needs.
For those who have recently arrived from China or have come from elsewhere but have come into contact with a confirmed case of Corona virus, you will need to self-isolate for 14 days. This means you should not attend Campus for at least 14 days and we will support you in continuing your studies during this period.
In order to minimise disruption to the rest of WIN community, Semester 1 orientation will commence on 24 February as planned. Please continue to regularly check your WIN email, the WIN Higher Education website for student-related information and updates or consult our admin staff for advice specific to you.
I am sure that you share our concern for those members of our community affected by this decision and that you will do what you can to assist any members of our WIN Community, whether here or overseas, during this uncertain time. I would like to thank all our staff who are working tirelessly to support our students during a particularly challenging period.
As we prepare for the return of students, it is important that we all adhere to the Australian Government Department of Health advice regarding basic hygiene practices and that we keep up to date with current guidelines. While the risk in Australia remains low, we are protecting the health of staff and students by taking extra precautions such as providing hand sanitisers, additional cleaning protocols and information posters which you will see around campus.
We will continue to keep you updated as further information becomes available.
